Naperville United Way is made up of local residents and businesses who volunteer their time, energy and support to answer the needs of our community.

Don Field, a 26-year resident of Naperville, volunteers his expertise and support to the Naperville United Way.

What is your role with the United Way?

I have been a financial supporter of the United Way for over thirty years. My active involvement began as a campaign fundraiser, calling on the leadership of Chicago-based corporations. In 1999 I became a member of the Chicago Council and in 2003 was elected to the United Way Chicago board. Following my 2004 retirement, I volunteered on the Community Impact Committee for the Naperville United Way. The Community Impact Committee focuses on finding and funding programs that have the greatest impact on Naperville residents and return the maximum benefit to the community. In 2005 I joined the Board of Directors and now chair the Community Impact Committee.

Why do you volunteer for the Naperville United Way?

I have been a community volunteer for almost 20 years. During my professional career I focused my efforts in Chicago, as that was were I worked. Now that I have retired my volunteering has shifted to Naperville, as I have been a resident here for 26years. I want to share my experience and talents as a way of giving back to the community.

Why do you personally give to the Naperville United Way?

I share my time and financial resources with not-for-profit organizations whose mission resonates with me. The Naperville United Way’s mission of “improving people’s lives by mobilizing the caring power of Naperville” strikes a cord with me. I share my talents where I can make a difference in someone’s life. The Naperville United Way provides that opportunity to me over and over again.

Investing in United Way helps more than one person, one charity or one issue, because we support a broad range of programs that improve lives. United Way is the most effective way to invest in our community to create positive, lasting change.
