Volunteer Sandy Benson Gives Long-Term Commitment of Time and Talent
March 1, 2006

Naperville United Way is made up of local residents and businesses who volunteer their time, energy and support to answer the needs of our community.
Sandy Benson is director of community relations for Edward Hospital. But she also finds the time to be part of the Naperville United Way downtown summer sculpture committee.
What is your role for Naperville United Way?
I?ve been part of this committee since it was created in 2001. Each year, we run the ?preview party.? That?s where we display all the sculptures for an evening at Edward Hospital, so people can see them before they are displayed around town. In fact, holding that party was my idea, and I?m just lucky to work for Edward, which donates the space and supports the event.
How much time do you give each year to Naperville United Way?
I don?t have any idea, I really don?t. I guess that?s a good sign. I know it?s a lot of time, but it?s fun! It is just so much fun for me!
Why do you volunteer for Naperville United Way?
I?ve lived in Naperville for 30 years, and I believe that we all have time, talent and treasure, and it?s our responsibility to return as much as we can to our communities. I don?t have time to volunteer with every organization that United Way supports, but I help them all this way, through Naperville United Way.
Naperville United Way is the most effective way to invest in our community to create positive, lasting change.
